Nathaniel learns of the Resistance's raiding of Gladstone's tomb, and learns that Honorius is terrorizing all of London. He has to summon Bartimaeus again and the djinn's not happy about it, but what can he do? The only date reference is in the second book, which states that Gladstone has been dead years. It continues the story of Nathaniel, now John Mandrake, a lonely and quite helpless self-absorbed teenager with an important job and status - you can see where this is going, and you know that it's not good. The year-old Nathaniel is an up-and-coming magician in charge of security operations in the department of internal affairs.

You sort of want him to succeed, but on the other hand you see the Magicians as what they are, morally repugnant. Please don't disappoint me eboko.
I still find it intriguing that our protagonist is so very flawed. Even though knowing quite a few words more than people of my age, I filled nearly an entire page of words I've met and said hello in the book but didn't know them enough to start a eys just a little lame metaphor here.
